We are restructuring some of our vacuum lines this year, getting rid of one of our troublesome pump houses we affectionately
refer to as 'Taj Mahal' and losing about 100 taps during the process. What we lose in taps we make up with the ability to
have a trouble-free system where we don't lose 1,000 gallons of sap on the ground.
We also installed power to our
newer pump house and we are moving our vacuum pump there. That will make room in the sugar house for a better Reverse Osmosis
(RO) machine setup.
We are out in the sugarbush now, tightening up lines, fixing them when fallen trees have crushed
them to the ground. Lots of work still to do before the sap flows.
It snowed very early here this year and the ground
seems hardly frozen, so we are interested to see how that affects this year's season.
Happy Sugaring Everyone!
The tree you see above is one of the biggest sugar maple trees we have on our farm. Out of respect for it's size and age,
we don't tap it, but some of our sugaring lines go right by it.
Isn't it amazing?
And that's me, Tom Wright, right there next to the tree. I own Maple View SugarWorks along with my wife, Cheryl. This
is our dream farm, in northern Vermont, on the Canadian border.
We've sugared for the last 15 years or so, but this is the first year we sugared here. It's a beautiful place, and the
trees are locally famous for making lots of Fancy grade syrup!
