Oh, and by the way, today's winner for best product name: Smack My Ass & Call Me Sally. posted 2:26 PM by Miriam
I thought it didn't GET hotter than Dave's Insanity Sauce. I put just a teeny tiny drop in a whole batch of gazpacho this weekend and rendered the stuff hot enough that I couldn't fully enjoy eating it (although Langdon the Iron-Tongued was in heaven). But lo and behold, Dave's measures a mere 48,700 Scoville Heat Units (yes, you CAN measure EVERYTHING if you try hard enough), and there are sauces on the market at a mind-blowing (literally) 750,000. Holy guacamole, Batman. posted 2:24 PM by Miriam
No, Iridium flares are not hot flashes on steroids caused by exposure to a radioactive isotope. They're quick, dramatic flashes of sunlight reflecting from one of the Iridium satellites, and they happen quite frequently. Want to see one? Visit Heavens-Above and use their database to find out when the next flare will be visible where you live, and where in the sky to look for it. (Thanks, Dave!) posted 2:06 PM by Miriam 8.28.2001
Today I failed to overcome my urge for a post-lunch ReeseSticks candy bar. As I dropped $0.50 into the vending machine upstairs, I wondered (in a thinly-veiled effort to distract myself from the fact that I was about to chow down 230 calories of peanut butter and chocolate -- and may I just say, YUMMMM) "just how exactly does this machine, which we all take for granted, know when I try to sneak a Canadian nickel past it?" Voila. posted 1:05 PM by Miriam
That's MULLETs, not Muppets. If you tend to be easily offended on others' behalf, read at your own risk. However, if you hail from a small town anywhere in Appalachia (as do I) or New Jersey or understand what I mean by "skank," overcome your sensitivity; this is a must-see. Thanks to Davezilla. posted 12:32 PM by Miriam
Isaiah and I spent a gorgeous Saturday morning picking blueberries on the last picking day of the season at Owl's Head Blueberry Farm. I picked, he ate. I got to enjoy the fruits of my labors this morning, though, in some quick blueberry pancakes before heading out to work. Fruit is so much sweeter when you work for it. posted 10:25 AM by Miriam |
