You want a sexy calendar? Check out The Full VerMonty. And once you've seen these samples, find out why these guys took off their clothes in the middle of a nippy (no pun intended) Vermont autumn. posted 3:31 PM by Miriam
Seen in my email today: Message: I'm looking to talk to financial advisors who run marathons or partake in extreme sports. Got any leads? Reply: Does binge drinking count as an extreme sport? 10.26.2001
I don't know about you, but I am ex-ci-TED that Monsters, Inc. opens next Friday. You can't be the parent of a toddler and not love Pixar. I think this will be Isaiah's first-ever real movie-theater experience (that he is old enough to appreciate -- we did attend a few flicks with him in tow when he was a baby), perhaps a matinee on Saturday with all the other screaming kiddies. He's got an incredible attention span despite his tender years, and I really think he'll make it through the whole thing. And to think -- Harry Potter opens just a week later. O-migod. I can hardly contain myself. (For all those who didn't know, I am in fact a 10-year-old trapped in the body of a 34-year-old pregnant woman.)
According to Scientific American, if you have to drive 10 miles to buy a Powerball ticket, you're 16 times more likely to get killed in a car crash on your way than you are to win. I knew there was a good reason I've never bothered to buy a Powerball ticket. [Thanks, Ed.] posted 10:31 AM by Miriam 10.24.2001
I'm heading into week 14. Still sick a good bit of the time, but it's getting better in miniscule increments. I'm finding my eating habits amusing. This week it's eggplant parmesan and pasta (and hot sausage)... that's just about the only thing I seem to be able to stomach. I've already been through the ham salad and corn chips phase, and the macaroni & cheese phase. Who knows what's next? posted 1:36 PM by Miriam
Daylight Saving Time comes to an end shortly; the days of waking in the dark and driving home after work in the dark are nearly upon us. Ben Franklin was the first to come up with the idea of Daylight Saving Time. Who knew? But it figures -- this is Ben we're talking about. posted 11:14 AM by Miriam 10.23.2001

A case of cutaneous anthrax has been confirmed in an NBC employee in New York City. She reportedly handled a piece of mail containing a powdery substance, although oddly the powder tested negative for anthrax. Pattern? They're saying no apparent connection with Florida or September 11. Hah. And the Pope is Muslim. Seems like perhaps the media has been widely targeted. Reportedly the New York Times offices have been evacuated as well after receiving an envelope containing a "powdery substance." If I were a media executive, I'd be taking precautions. 10.9.2001
"The AMI tabloids -- which specialize in a mix of celebrity scandal, sex and fantastic stories -- have published many items belittling the hijackers and Osama bin Laden. The Globe said bin Laden had underdeveloped sex organs while The Enquirer promoted toilet paper printed with photos of his face. Asked if she thought the papers' coverage had anything to do with the anthrax outbreak, Duckworth replied: `That seems silly. I can't imagine him (bin Laden) sitting in a cave reading the tabloids.' '' Quite an image, no? [link] |
